Fear of Silence
As you know, a good musician should listen to a lot of kinds of music, lifelong, to improve:

music experience

aesthetic criticism

playing style
For example, if I have only a few favorite artists and if I listen exclusively to their songs, what will be the outcome? The answer is, of course: My playing style and my songs will be too similar to theirs. This is because of the small number of artists that have influenced me. In other words, I will not develop my playing style.
But, if I increase the number of artists, more influences will be felt in my songs. Finally, if I keep increasing the number of artists that I’m listening to, I’ll increase the uniqueness of my playing style – as the mix of all influences, and that’s the goal.
