TuxGuitar is open source software for guitar tabs editing and playing. You can use it for:
- composing music
- guitar tabs editing and playing
- sheet music editing
- importing and editing MIDI files
- converting guitar tabs to MIDI or PDF files
- opening GuitarPro, PowerTab and TablEdit files
- exporting to MIDI, Lilyond and MusicXML files
Guitar Tabs Editing
In TuxGuitar, there are two ways in editing files. The first is by using music score editor and the second is by using tablature editor. Editing is simple in both cases.
If you chose guitar tabs editor, all you have to do is to click on desired line and enter number of the fret to insert a note.
If you want to use music score editor, just click on the desired place on the staff to insert a note. More detail about editing in TuxGuitar you can find here:
MIDI files to Guitar Tabs
Converting MIDI to guitar tabs is one of the best features of TuxGuitar. From the “File” menu, select “Import” and then “Import MIDI”.
Then, select your MIDI file and click the “Open” button. Now you can transpose the pitch of the song, but if you don’t want that, just select OK:
That’s all. Your MIDI file is imported and it is split to a multiple channels:
